Used correctly, side effects are extremely rare, but occasionally cats do show sign of irritation at the application site.  This is more usually a reaction to the inert carrier liquid rather than the medicine itself and tends to be short lived.  But of course if you notice any ongoing reaction, or are at all concerned you should seek the advice of a qualified vet.
