The traditional Advantage medication is a treatment for fleas. It is available for both Dogs and Cats and is probably the most effective and fast acting way to control fleas.
Advantage has the active ingredient Imidacloprid. It is the same active ingredient for both Dogs and Cats but in different strengths.
Advantage will stop fleas biting within minutes and within an hour it will begin to kill fleas. Within twelve hours all the fleas will be dead. This is very fast acting and few other flea meds can work as fast or as efficiently.
Advantage medication also kills flea larvae and stops the adults laying eggs. This means that the fleas life-cycle is broken and effectively stops fleas from returning.
Advantage is applied externally to the skin of both Dogs and Cats. For larger Dogs it is applied in 3-4 spots along the back while for smaller Dogs and for Cats a single application is all that is needed. Both are applied monthly to prevent fleas on our pets.
Advantage Multi Medication For Fleas And Worms

Advantage Multi medication is a much more comprehensive treatment. As well as preventing and killing fleas in the same way as regular Advantage it also guards against heartworms and intestinal worms. It treats for roundworms, hookworms and whipworms and again is available for both Dogs and Cats. It is applied monthly to the skin in the same manner as regular Advantage meds.
The active ingredients are Imidacloprid and Moxidectin for both Dogs and Cats. Advantage multi for Cats also prevents ear mites so it is a very comprehensive preventative. The moxidectin works by disrupting the nerve transmissions in worms which results in paralysis and then death. The imidacloprid works just as it does in regular Advantage.
